Weestock Holiday Edition 2010

I recently hosted a table at a great tradeshow for indie and boutique businesses in the baby industry. There were over 2000 people that came to see what “Weestock” was all about. There was a lot to see and do there, and I am sure the customers had a great time. The entire day was busy so I didn’t get much time to browse myself because I was working my table on my own. From what I did see there were lots of Christmas shopping options, maybe it was best I didn’t get much time to shop as I know I would have spent a lot of money. I was able to meet some really great women there in my area, we created a cute little island with our tables and had a fantastic time.

2 year olds

Ok so my daughter is 2 and a bit, and of course you are probably thinking “Oh here we go, the terrible 2’s” well no not really she is really quite good I am so thankful.
She is although in to the “WHY” stage and you have to wonder sometimes “Do I really need to answer the why all the time” Like really when you break a concept down to the power of 5 is it really effective anymore, does the child even remember the original why?
I have decided to answer the why before it comes… “Come there and put your coat on, so we can go outside.”
And yet I still get ”WHY?”
It is so hard not to laugh and then sometimes I have to try even harder not to get angry. Children just say the funniest things you probable already know.
Ok enough of that.
I remember a few things that our daughter has said that has us doubled over in laughter.
- As she is feeling my Husbands beard –
“Fuzzy Like Copper” (our golden retriever)
- As we are getting ready to go to town –
“How is your day?”, I answer “good”
she asks, “and your work? Is it good?”
Holding back the laughter I then reply, “Yes it is good too...”

And I will have more for you because you know their little brains never stop growing. That is why we have to take so much care in what we expose our children to.

Staring a New Year off Right!

Ok so here we go venturing in to a new year, and I am sure we have all come up with our resolutions…. Right!

Well I really want to make my business work so we can have more freedom in our lives. I am going to be working hard at contributing to our family’s income. I have chosen a great company to work with, Kidsmart, it has all the things I was looking for. Products that sell themselves, great rewards, excellent work schedule, CANADIAN owned and operated. With Kidsmart being such a young company I can help them by helping my self, suggestions are always welcomed and they have great staff that are always there when you need help or just have a question.

Our products are so cool! Ok at least I think so, oh and so do all the other reps and now that I think about it so do all our customers. That should tell you something… OUR PRODUCTS ARE REALLY COOL!!

We try to offer as many unique, Canadian Made or designed products as we can. Offering a wide variety of items from Feeding to bath time and even toys for children ages birth to 5+. Everyone is sure to find at least one product they just can’t live without. To my surprise our most recent catalogue the Fall and Winter book even has a section for Moms, and their friends, you don’t even need to have children to shop in this area. What a great way to offer specialty items to your friends with our stay at home shopping experience.

By hosting a Party you not only get to have some friends over to socialize but you get to try out family friendly products in the comfort of your own home. Children are always welcome at a Kidsmart party, they don’t even know you are shopping, you can see which items they are drawn too and which products work best for you and your family before you buy.

The rewards, so here is what’s in it for you. Everything!! You have a fun time, no pressure sales, monthly sales and door prizes a Kidsmart party has something for everyone. By hosting your own party you receive 10% of the party sales off your order, 1 or more Half off items, and if your friends book party’s from yours you are able to purchase exclusive products only offered to hostesses at half price.

Do you have a home party business? Well if you do you know how it goes trying to get parties after all your friends have had one. Well I have a little suggestion for getting leads and a few sales too. I have been networking at local and surrounding farmers markets; I purchase a table and set out my display. People are there to see what other locals have to offer so you are not bothering or soliciting to them. Some tricks that I have learned from my experiences are to always smile, greet each person as they glance at your table or booth. If they are looking they are interested, they want to know what you are offering, who are you representing, and who you are. Try to answer these three questions with every encounter. Do a door prize; you don’t have to draw at each market set a time limit maybe after 3-4 markets do the draw for a small item or gift certificate. Make sure your draw slips have this very important: Name, Phone number, city, email address, “Are you interested in a PARTY?”, “Are you interested in earning extra money for your family?”, “Were all your questions answered?” This way you may get potential leads from just a draw ship and you are not being pushy with your business. Don’t leave the ball in the leads court; take action, wait a week or so and call each of the people that said they wanted a party or wanted to learn more about your business and tell them they won and at their party they will receive “what ever your prize was.” This way you know you are getting a party and not just giving away product. Call every yes for sure and follow up with the potential lead, do a draw for all the other slips and you will make someone very happy and you may turn that no into a yes.
Networking can happen any where so just make sure you always carry some information for any potential lead. Think of everyone you meet on every outing as a potential lead, people don’t walk around looking for home parties so offer the opportunity; the worst they may say is no, but the best they can say is yes or even an exchange of information is great too because they will share with their friends and family.
Share your networking tricks and see what other are doing.
